It’s nice and sunny here in the Rhineland. And temps in the 50’s too, which has meant we can get outside and play. We’ve gone on several walks recently and the kids are enjoying the weather (and so am I). Only a couple more weeks till I can just send them out to play in the backyard, just open the door and say ‘Scoot!’ I can’t wait.
It was a good weekend here. We celebrated Chinese New Year (as best you can in Germany) by ordering in Chinese food and dressing in red. We managed to get Chickadee in her Chinese New Year clothes but Boo wanted nothing to do with his. We wanted to eat dumplings because they look like golden nuggets which would mean prosperity and good luck in the new year if you cook them as the new year starts. But we were unable to find dumplings on a menu. We tried translating the word dumpling and came up with either knodel or Mehlkloß neither of which appears on a menu. If you know what dumpling would be in German in the sense of ordering Chinese dumplings please let me know.
Boo is back to school today and Chickadee is supposed to be napping (but continues to squeak after my third attempt to get her to sleep) so it should be fairly quiet today. P is away till Friday morning in Dubai (quite a scary thought as that part of the world isn’t the most stable, though he assures me there is actually very safe) so lots of internet time, book time and chick flick time. Speaking of chick flicks we bought ‘Rezept zum Verlieben’ (I think ‘Recipe for Love’ would be the english title) with Catherine Zeta-Jones and it was a cute movie, though a little slow in parts. I found one of my favorite movies when I was younger on dvd a few weeks ago. ‘Adventures in Babysitting’ with Elisabeth Shue. Something from the 80’s that I wore out my parents video membership renting. I haven’t watched it yet so maybe that will be inline for tonight.
One other thing we are searching for advice about is finding the German equivalent of a crock-pot. This was an essential item in our household in the US. When we went to Kaufhof and asked (in passable German) if they had a langsamer Kocher, they pretty much thought we were nuts. So I am hoping Mausi the great wise cooker/baker of my blog readership can help me out in finding what this translates to in German.
I also joined the technologically advanced over the weekend. I am now a Blackberry toting Mama. I’ve already learned how fun this SMS stuff is 🙂 Now if I could just figure out how to find where it tells me what my phone number is…
